Athol is a town located in Worcester County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 11,299.

It was the birthplace of Lysander Spooner and Bishop Daniel Francis Feehan. It was home to inventor and businessman Leroy S. Starrett.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 86.5 km2 (33.4 mi2). 84.4 km2 (32.6 mi2) of it is land and 2.1 km2 (0.8 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 2.46% water.
Athol was first settled in 1735 and was officially incorporated in 1762.
